Cotton sales in Zimbabwe increased during the cotton season than in the same period last year, which is due to the early settlement of producer prices, an official said on Monday. According to the latest data released by the agricultural marketing Bureau, Zimbabwe has sold 41907690 kilograms of cotton since the beginning of the distribution season in April this year, the Zimbabwe news agency reported.

Last year, from the start of the selling season to the end of 7, Zimbabwe sold 34900 tons of cotton because of the price deadlock between growers and wholesalers. This year, the cotton mills and farmers agreed to a minimum price of 0.35 US dollars / kg.

"Any competition from buyers or associations will lead to a firm action by the agricultural marketing Bureau," said Roger mhtag, chief executive of the Zimbabwe agricultural marketing Bureau. Once farmers have fulfilled their contractual obligations, the agricultural marketing Bureau encourages competition in public procurement sites. The agricultural sales bureau is a statutory body established under the laws of the Congress and authorized to manage the production, procurement and processing of agricultural products in Zimbabwe.

MHT said the seed cotton contract was based on quantity and was formulated in accordance with the provisions of law 63 of 2011. Farmers have not been able to sell their free cotton to the company at the highest price. Purchasers are allowed to buy their subsidized cotton seeds or buy them from public procurement sites. At present, the purchase price of seed cotton purchased by purchasers is US $0.38 US $-0.40 / kg.

Last year, the government of Zimbabwe intervened to fix the price of cotton producers at $1.50 / kg, even though the cotton mill refused to comply with the price of 0.35 US dollars per kilogram. At present, some cotton producers have begun to turn to other cash crops. Many farmers in West Marshall province have turned to soybeans and corn because they are disappointed with the 2012 economic season. Mhhaha said total cotton sales this year may be down compared with last year.
