At present, most of the insulation materials used in high-rise buildings in China are mostly polymer foam insulation boards, such as polyurethane (PU), molded polystyrene foam board (EPS), extruded polystyrene foam board (XPS) and so on.

According to statistics, only 90% of the high-rise building insulation materials in Beijing are all these high polymer foam insulation boards.

In February 9, 2009, the fire broke out in the Central Television Taipei distribution building. It was because the fireworks ignited the insulation material XPS in the north building structure, and then spread rapidly, eventually igniting the whole building. In 2008, Shenzhen District Dance Club of Shenzhen, in the "9. 20" fire, due to the extensive use of polyurethane material decoration, the performance personnel used the prop gun to ignite the ceiling polyurethane material, and the July 2, 2007 Peking University table tennis hall fire was also caused by the ignition of the thermal insulation material.

According to expert identification, this kind of thermal insulation board has low thermal conductivity, good material density and compressive strength, but the drawback is that its flame retardancy is very poor, its burning speed is fast, and droplets will be produced during the process, which will easily cause the fire to accelerate.

Moreover, more toxic gases will be generated during combustion, especially carbon monoxide (CO).

Fire fighting in high-rise buildings has always been a worldwide problem. This incident once again sounded the alarm for us.

With the continuous occurrence of similar events, the flame retardancy of wall insulation materials has become a new topic.

According to the experts, it has special properties such as flame retardant, heat insulation, sound insulation, and so on.
