The same saying applies to 300 different ethnic groups in Indonesia. For a long time, Indonesian people have reflected their social status, identity and faith through their clothing habits. Even today, these traditional clothes are still regarded as symbols of noble blood.

According to Indonesian tradition, textile and batik work is done by women, some of which are extremely complex and time-consuming, so it may take a year or more for a traditional wax dyed cloth to be finished.

The traditional wax dyed cloth in Java is hand-painted. Indonesia's best craftsmen use a very small "writing" tool, which comes in nine different sizes, and draws wax on cloth in a very delicate way (e.g. hand drawn) rather than simply daubing it.

In the 16th century, wax dyed cloth was first popular among royal families and nobles in Central Java. The traditional colors of wax dyed cloth in Central Java are indigo and light blue. Batik clothes with some special patterns or themes can only be worn by royal families and nobles. According to Indonesian tradition, the wider the stripe or wavy line, the higher the grade. In Java rituals, one can judge whether a person has royal blood by the batik clothes he wears.

The patterns of wax dyed cloth are various, ranging from Arabic calligraphy, European bouquets and Chinese phoenix, to Japanese cherry blossoms and Indian peacocks, reflecting various cultural influences. This craft is often handed down from generation to generation in the family, and it is closely related to the cultural identity of the Indonesian people.

Other parts of Indonesia often use the theme of daily life as the pattern of wax dyed cloth, such as painting flowers, nature, animals, folk customs or people on batik cloth. And according to the wedding, pregnancy and other celebration activities and other art forms to design a variety of special batik cloth, these complex patterns greatly improve the artistic value of wax dyed cloth.

Batik costumes even play a central role in religious rituals, such as throwing Royal batik as a tribute to God at the volcano.

As far as the region is concerned, batik is obviously of the highest level in batik.

In the early 20th century, local batik artists invented advanced batik printing and dyeing technology, which greatly shortened the time compared with hand-painted batik cloth. As a kind of batik printing and dyeing fabric, wax dyed fabric is widely spread and used in various countries with different cultures in the world.

The advantage of batik printing and dyeing process is that it can be produced in large quantities and can ensure the uniformity of patterns. With the machine printing into the wax dyeing industry, a variety of batik cloth into the home of ordinary people. Batik printing in Indonesia expresses the creativity and mental state of Indonesian people through its colors and patterns.

On October 2, 2009, UNESCO recognized Indonesian wax dyed cloth as a masterpiece of human oral and intangible heritage, aiming to encourage local communities to protect this batik process and inherit these forms of culture from generation to generation.

Batik cloth has a high aesthetic value, and also fully represents the clothing culture of Indonesia.
