The United Nations says this disaster is the most serious flooding in Palestinian state history. Its severity is far greater than the 2004 tsunami in South Asia and the Kashmir earthquake in 2005. Gohar Ejaz, chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), Punjab, said that unprecedented floods hit Pakistan's textile industry seriously, leading to the closure of important industries, which could lead to massive unemployment.
President Ejaz urged the Pakistan government to seek special market opening concessions to Europe and the United States, just as the European Union offered preferential treatment to Sri Lanka after the great tsunami in South Asia.
The canal also advocated that the Pakistani government should provide special regulations on the import of cotton in the United States to ensure the normal operation of the textile industry in Pakistan.
