The government of Indonesia plans to cancel the license to import second-hand machinery, in order to support the local machinery industry and help save energy, a senior official of the Ministry of industry of Indonesia said.

Harry, Surrey Barker, director of the Ministry of industry in charge of metals, textiles, machinery and other industries, said on Tuesday that he will draft a draft to adjust the regulations on import of second-hand machinery by trade officials in 2007.

He said that this regulation will be considered once a year and will be full of 31 on December this year.

Barker Harry said: "the importation of second-hand machinery should be banned. This is due to the fact that second-hand machinery consums more 15%-20% than the latest machinery, and energy has become a real concern for Indonesia.

At the same time, allowing the importation of second-hand machinery does not support our own machinery industry.

The Ministry of industry will identify specific types of machinery to prohibit imports. "

Barker Harry said that the import of second-hand machinery was between 10-20 billion dollars last year.

According to statistics from the Central Bureau of statistics of Indonesia, in the first half of this year, Indonesia imported machinery of 7 billion 440 million US dollars, almost double the 3 billion 580 million US dollars in the same period last year.

According to figures from the Central Bureau of statistics, Indonesia exported $1 billion 950 million in machinery in the first half of this year, up 21% from 1 billion 610 million US dollars in the same period last year.

Barker Harry said that almost all industries and sectors import second-hand machinery, including textiles, energy, shoes, food and beverages.

Barker Harry said that companies operating in these departments have repaired imported machinery to achieve better performance at lower prices.

The Indonesia machinery and tool industry association encourages import restrictions because companies purchase second-hand machinery at risk, especially automated second-hand machinery.

It takes about 250 million rupees to buy a famous brand of second-hand machinery, and the repair cost is 15 million rupees.

However, these mechanical dollars are guaranteed after sale.

It only needs 350 million rupees in the purchase of new machinery, and it can enjoy two years' warranty.

The government should provide incentives for those willing to buy new locally made machinery to support local industries.
