World Powers Call For Rescue Of The Collapse Of The WTO Negotiations

On Wednesday, July 31st, the world trade powers called for the WTO to save the proposal. At the same time, they regretted the collapse of the nine day marathon negotiations. They warned that the poorest countries would be victims.

"I will urge WTO director general to see this impasse as a pause rather than a collapse, and let the negotiations continue," said India's commerce minister, Kamal Nath.

India, the world's economic superpower and the largest emerging economy, regretted the failure of the talks. Although they did not soften their position on the import tariff issue in Tuesday's negotiations, African countries expressed their indignation.

Susan Schwab, US trade representative, said that the collapse of the negotiations was very sad. Nath said that the failure of the negotiations was very heavy.

Nath said, "Susan Schwab said she loved me, and I said I loved her too.

But maybe she doesn't love me enough. "

After nine days of negotiations, India and the United States split on the issue of special protection mechanisms, leading to the breakdown of negotiations. The purpose of the special protection mechanism is to protect poor farmers. If the import volume of some agricultural products increases sharply or the price falls, the importing countries may impose special duties.

African countries had hoped to solve other problems, such as the export of cotton and banana in poor countries, and they felt very sad.

In the past nine days, the ministers have made many efforts to achieve the same level of subsidy and import tariffs in the new round of WTO Doha round. Since the Doha round was launched seven years ago, it has suffered many setbacks.

At the end of the week, WTO director general Lamy proposed a breakthrough proposal, which once brought hope to the negotiations.

However, all these efforts have come to nothing.

On Wednesday, delegates continued their meetings to discuss ways to resume negotiations.

Some representatives called for the protection of the progress already achieved. Others insisted that a timetable should be worked out when the next step was moved to the next stage.

On Tuesday, Rami said: "we need to let some dust fall. WTO members need to calm down and think about how to bring together the broken pieces if they resume negotiations."

Schwab said that some countries demand too much, and they hope to write a tool to close the market in the agreement.

Brazil's foreign minister, Celso Amorim, said that we all want to reach a final agreement, but there is something worth celebrating, that is, things here are no longer determined by developed countries alone.

They must consider our interests, and this situation will remain.
