For security reasons, many environments do not provide DHCP servers. When you want to browse web pages at home, you want us to modify the IP address.

This is very difficult for most of the rookies, and some expert users feel very troublesome.

In fact, Windows XP allows our network card to have a dual identity: if there is a DHCP server, it will get IP from the DHCP server; otherwise, we will use a IP specified by us, which will bring great convenience to our mobile computing.

Right click on the desktop's "network neighborhood", select the "properties" command, open the "network connection" folder, right-click the corresponding network card, select the "property" command, open the window to select the "Internet" (TCP/IP) item, click the "properties" button below, and in the open window, select "automatically get IP address" and "automatically get the DNS server address"; click the "alternate configuration" tab, then select the "user configuration" item in the open window, then enter the fixed IP address, the subnet mask, the default gateway, the preferred DNS server address, such as 192.168.0.188, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.1, etc.

After such a setup, when our computer finds that DHCP exists, it will get the IP address from the DHCP server.

Otherwise, we will use our fixed IP, subnet mask, default gateway, preferred DNS server address, and so on, such as 192.168.0.188.

Hint: Windows XP does not allow us to set more than one fixed IP with only one set at most.

This setting is also available under Windows Vista.

Even if we do not set up shared folders on the machine, XP acquiesce in sharing all the hard disks after being logged in by the network administrator. This strategy is very unsafe.

Although this function can be closed by a certain operation, it is a bit troublesome.

In fact, as long as we keep the network card shut, we can take precaution against it once and for all.

Open the property dialog box of local connection, cancel the selection of file and printer sharing item on Microsoft network, so that no one else can see any files on your computer, but you can still see the shared files or folders on other computers.

Tips:

* no matter how many shared folders you have on your machine, use this method without one right click, select "sharing and security", and then cancel the sharing.

This method is the most thorough and quicker and more effective than writing batch processing or modifying the registry.

If you often visit other people's shared folders, you may also be infected by viruses in shared files or Chinese Trojan horses.

When you open the local connection property dialog box and cancel the Microsoft network client item, you can't open the shared folder of others.

This can effectively prevent infecting viruses or trojans due to careless misconduct.

Loosening the network card

Windows does not bind too many protocols by default, but if you install too many network programs, you may tie up a lot of protocols on the network card, causing it to be overburdened.

In fact, for the most common Internet browsing applications, Internet protocol (including TCP protocol and IP protocol) can be guaranteed.

Other protocols such as IPX and QoS may be available.

According to the network principle, the less protocol is tied to the network card, the easier it is to "light up the battle array", and the speed of accessing the Internet will naturally be much faster.

Just open the control panel, double-click the "network connection", right-click the local connection, select "properties", and then cancel the corresponding protocol in the open window.

After installing the Windows XP SP2, the firewall will be enabled by default. This will take some system resources to filter the network package, which will probably reduce the connection speed.

In fact, as long as anti-virus software and malware are installed, the computer is equivalent to having the firewall function.

Moreover, in general, the gateway of our router or corporate LAN already has a better protection function. In order to improve the speed of network, we can consider removing this chicken rib.

Open the control panel, double-click the network connection icon, right-click the local connection in the open window, select properties, open the window, click the Advanced tab, click the settings button, and select the close (not recommended) check.

When you return to the network connection window of Windows, you can see that the small lock icon on the local connection is gone, which proves that the firewall function has been banned.
