Adidas Opens Up New Technology To Produce 3D Printing Shoes.
Recently, ADI announced the opening of a new factory, Speed factory, probably in the
3D print shoes
Further progress is needed in terms of mass production.
The reason why ADI considers more technology and localization production is to compress costs.
Speed factory will be set up in the United States and Germany. It will adopt many new manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, computer weaving and robot cutting.
In addition to cost considerations, keeping pace with consumer demand is also a major driver.
The world-famous sports footwear brands have a strong interest in 3D printing. Nike, ADI, new brun, and Andrew have launched 3D printing sneakers, but they are generally produced in small quantities, developing customized shoes for athletes, or launching limited edition sports shoes in the market.
At present, the annual output value of the sports shoes market is US $80 billion, and the production links are mainly outsourced to China, Indonesia and Vietnam.
However, as the cost of labor in these countries has risen, the cost of outsourcing has also risen.
As a result, the possibility of outsourcing to the third world to reduce costs is fading away, and 3D printing and robots provide this kind of imagination.
The brand of sports shoes is a field that advocates fashion, personality and innovation. The new technology mentioned above can shorten the design time and simplify the supply chain, so that shoes can be produced in shorter cycles.
Using traditional production processes (from design, prototyping (Prototyping), testing materials to production), it takes about 18 months to produce a pair of shoes.
Considering that a shoe is usually sold at a certain time in a year, this is obviously not the most economical way.
By contrast, in the Speedfactory plant, it can be completed within a week from design to delivery.
Once the design is completed, the production cycle may even be reduced to one day, the company said.
And that is why it is clearly the credit of new technology.
In addition, the new technology has also been released.
Shoe design
Imagination.
As a disruptive mode of production, 3D printing can not only design the complex shape and internal structure of traditional technology, but also use various new materials.
In terms of customized services, 3D printing and digital design can provide an unprecedented level of personalization for shoes, but also take into account the posture, gait and pace structure of consumers.
However, ADI did not disclose too many details of the Speedfactory production system.
But ADI said that various raw materials, such as plastics and fibers, will be used to make all parts of shoes.
These new technologies will also appear in factories, such as computer weaving, robot cutting and 3D printing, all of which help to produce shoes faster, cheaper and more cost saving.
Adidas
Speedfactory will not employ a lot of labor like Asian factories, and each factory needs only 160 people.
However, automated production is always associated with employment problems.
At the very least, at present, the high-tech plant is only a supplement to the existing facilities and will not replace the Asian factories, ADI said.
Considering that ADI produces 300 million pairs of shoes every year, Speedfactory expects to produce only 50 thousand pairs a year.
ADI's Speedfactory in Germany is located in Bach, Bavaria, and is expected to be commissioned by the middle of this year. Now ADI is working with Oechsler Motion, a local manufacturing equipment company.
The second Speedfactory in Atlanta, Georgia, is currently under construction.
If the two factories operate successfully, ADI may promote this model in a large scale in the future.
ADI said that these new technologies could also be applied to factories in Asia, due to the rising demand for sportswear locally.
