Positive Results Of Textile And Clothing Policies

ChaudhrySalamatAli, former chairman and chief coordinator of the North Branch of the Pakistan knitwear manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA), said that many difficulties and the current energy crisis in Pakistan will lead to disaster in the export and labour intensive industries, which may lead to unemployment and cause industrial turbulence and worsening labour and public order problems.

He said that the government's industrial and textile policies failed to achieve positive results, and so far, due to tariff and electricity price adjustments, natural gas prices rose month by month, and often broke off.

He pointed out that the rising cost of production is the core issue of the textile industry. The general economic conditions and the drawback of tax rebates are not consistent, which has a negative impact on exports and causes fiscal tightening.

In the 2009-14 year, the textile policy announced the local tax rebate, and many decisions of the textile policy were implemented in 2009. Good results were achieved, and value-added textile exports increased for two consecutive years.

He added, but now industrial production is declining and investment is turning to other industries.

Textile exporters and manufacturers are unable to fulfill their export contracts on time, and foreign buyers have lost confidence in Pakistan exporters, which has become a reality.

In the past two years, the price of natural gas has increased by 93%. Therefore, Pakistan's products have lost competitiveness in the international market. The failure of natural gas has increased the production difficulties of enterprises, and many people's lives are closely related to the textile industry.

He stressed that the government should formulate measures to solve these problems, because the productivity is weakened, and a large number of daily wage workers will be in deep trouble because of the closure of factories.
